And now the Lord says – he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honoured in the eyes of the Lord and my God has been my strength – he says: ‘It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.’ … to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers …

An important aspect of the Messiah’s mission was to bring Israel (who has an enduring place in God’s plan) back to God. That plan will be fulfilled when all Israel will be saved. Though part of the Messiah’s mission is directed to Israel, He also has a mission to the Gentiles. The Messiah would not simply bring salvation; He would bring salvation to the ends of the earth. Israel has light but needs restoration whereas the Gentiles need both light and salvation. However, the Messiah will be despised or abhorred by mankind in general and by Israel specifically but in the end will receive the worship and honour He deserves because He is God’s Chosen One.
彌賽亞的使命一個重要的方面，就是把在神的計劃裡有著不朽位置的以色列帶回神那裡去。當全以色列必得到拯救時，那計劃必得著成就。雖然彌賽亞使命的一部分是指向以色列，祂也有對外邦人的使命。彌賽亞不會只不過帶來救恩；祂會把救恩帶至地極。以色列有亮光，卻需要復位，反之，外邦人既要亮光，又要救恩。然而，彌賽亞必普遍地被人，並特定地被以色列藐視或憎惡，但最後必得到祂配得的崇拜和尊敬，因為祂是神所揀選的人。
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, very often we lightly note this important prophecy of you that we might have looked lightly/neglected/ignored the fact that being chosen and commissioned by you as Father God had chosen and sent you, we have shared your mission in bringing your gospel of salvation to the ends of the earth. Despite rejection, may your love and the Holy Spirit empower us to persevere to the end enabling us to share the honour and glory you deserve. Amen.
