2/11 “May We Receive Mercy and Find Grace in Jesus Christ to Help Us in Our Time of Need 愿我们在耶稣基督里,領受憐憫,得到恩惠,作為及時的幫助”(Read阅读Hebrews 希伯来书4:14-16)

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to feel sympathy for our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

No other High Priest was called great, had ascended into heaven and is the Son of God. All these specific, uniquely characteristic and glorious truths should encourage us to hold firmly to the faith we profess. Lord Jesus knows what we go through and has faced even worse thus sympathizing with our weakness and our temptation but cannot sympathize with our sin. The devil sometimes wants us to consider Him as unapproachable or to think of Him as being powerless to help. Boldly does not mean proudly, arrogantly, or with presumption, but means we may/can/should come constantly without reservation, freely, without fancy words as well as with confidence and persistence. Here, in light of the finished work of Jesus, we see mercy and judgment reconciled into one throne of grace.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for reminding us that grace does not ignore your justice; it operates in fulfilment of your justice, in light of the cross. Thank you for your help in our time of need. No request is too small, because you want us to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer (petition and thanksgiving) letting our requests be made known to you. Amen.
